Excessive Sweating or Hypohydrosis

This is an increasingly common problem

Possibly not more common rather more widely understood and discussed.  Everyone sweats and this is normal.  However we are capable of increasing many of our bodies normal functions simply by becoming anxious about them.  The more we focus on 'not wanting to sweat' the more our mind focuses on 'sweat' and is also very conscious of a great deal of anxiety surrouding the problem - if there is an emotion that can focus our attention its FEAR!

Our Treatment

We use NLP, Hypnotherapy and TFT combined to resolve the causes and effects of the 'thinking' surrounding sweating.  These techniques do a number of things:

  • illicit the state that causes sweating in order to change it
  • illicit the desired state to 'anchor' this in replacement of the negative
  • teach a 'take away' technique to maintain a sense of being in control of the sweating mechanism
  • teach mind control - yes, you are 'in control!' just learn how to be in control of sweating!

Leah Butler-Smith has been involved with the BBC 'One Show' in highlighting the difficulty individuals have when they become aware of this problem.  In this show the BBC wanted to show how many variations of treatment there were and although our therapist was asked to discuss the psychology of the problem, the treatment highlighted was chemically induced.  We would prefer to treat our clients naturally and advocate the use of our techniques before any other invasive treatment is introduced.  We have worked with clients who have found intervention (even operative) useful for only a while or for a specific body part.

Number of Treatments

As our sessions are 90 minutes long, we are able to decrease the number required overall.  Generally for this problem a series of 3 - 4 treatments is required.
